Patrick Horvath / Reinhold Gutschik: Current Positions on Austrian Energy Policy
The article presents selected results of a recent study on energy policy issues in Austria. Data from a representative survey are being connected with expert statements. Concerning energy production from conventional sources, hydropower is favoured over coal and oil, but the range of opinions reflects mixed perceptions about hydropower as well. Generally supported is Austria’s position to abstain from the building of new nuclear power plants – unlike some other European Union countries. There is a far-reaching consensus on the importance of energy efficiency. In this area, therefore, the implementation of concrete measures would be most likely in the near future.
