Roland Loos: Social Partner Agreements for Continuous Vocational Training of Employees – Good Practice Initiatives in Germany and their Added Value for Austria

The aim of the article is to present the current situation of collective agreements for continuous vocational training of employees in Germany, to identify innovations in these agreements and to assess its added value for new collective agreements in Austria. Four innovative agreements are being presented: the annual qualification check for employees, new models combining job and training (and in combination with a training account), the possibility for leaving the job for several years for further education and training with the company’s guarantee to return to the job within seven years, and a social partner agency in Baden-Württemberg to enhance continuous vocational training of workers in the metal and electrical industries. There is a lack of application in the companies. Similarly, social partner agreements in Austria can enhance the participation of employees in continuous vocational training.
